/// Identifying Market Growth Opportunities: MacTavish:West helped a Tasmanian start-up agri-food business turn a hobby into an award-winning cider enterprise, by providing insights to focus product positioning.
We reviewed the local and global cider consumption trends, and surveyed cider drinkers about their reasons for drinking cider, selecting a specific cider and thoughts on specific products.
We assessed relevant competitive products in terms of flavour and phenolic composition (phenolics give cider it’s bite and astringency).
We identified a potential gap in the market for a ‘methode traditionalle’ cider, marketed as a premium product to a specific demographic of consumer, and relevant for the client’s production interests.
“The direction that MacTavish:West provided to us was invaluable. Without their work, we would have used an alternative model that would have proven to be a challenge for success”. Caroline Brown, Brady’s Lookout Cider.
/// Communicating Complex Messages: MacTavish:West provided Horticulture Innovation Australia and the Australian vegetable industry with dynamic web-based resources for communicating complex nutritional and health information about vegetables.
We developed the communication vehicle Veggycation, and worked collaboratively with Plant and Food Research (Aus) to convert detailed regulatory and analytical information into a wide range of relevant and understandable resources, including a user-friendly, searchable web-based database.
Veggycation has stimulated interest and action from retailers, producers, consumers, teachers and kids. www.veggycation.com.au
“Veggycation is a very good result- Looks excellent and I am sure will be a great tool for educators and the industry alike”. Michael Worthington, Chief Executive Officer, PMA AUS NZ.
/// Communicating Innovation Processes: MacTavish:West provided Horticulture Innovation Australia and the Australian vegetable industry with pragmatic information to help SME agri-food business to develop new products to meet emerging consumer trends.
We developed a searchable database of suppliers for everything from processing equipment to packaging, and wrote a downloadable ‘How-To-Guide’ for food innovation.
The vegetable industry was inspired via excellent speakers at workshops held at the Food Innovation Centre (Victoria).
“Very informative, new opportunity, development, creative thinking process”.
“Great day, interesting speakers, great networking opportunities”.
“Fantastic day, the best workshop I have been to in a long time! Very relevant, informative, well organised, good level/balance of speakers and networking. Thank you!”
